Race Report: CVMA Opening Round – A Weekend of Highs, Challenges, and Progress
Share
The opening round of CVMA (Chuckwalla Valley Motorcycle Association) brought plenty of adventure and excitement as I returned to the track on the BPR Racing R1. Despite missing Friday’s practice session due to relentless sandstorms, the weekend delivered competitive racing and valuable lessons.
Saturday: Fighting to the Front
The first race saw me starting from 8th on the grid. Determined to charge toward the front, I made a hard push and crossed the line in 2nd place. While I aimed to battle with Corey Alexander and Jayson Uribe, Corey extended his lead, and Jayson stayed just out of reach.
Meanwhile, I encountered challenges with the R6, struggling to find a setup that worked for me. Although we managed a 1:47 lap time, the team made the decision to retire the R6 by Saturday evening to focus on better opportunities for Sunday.
Sunday: Gaining Momentum
Sunday morning warm-up proved promising as I posted the fastest time of the session, finding a rhythm and building confidence on the R1. The day culminated in the highly competitive Stock 1000 Shootout, featuring top MotoAmerica championship contenders.
After a clean start, I slotted into 4th place before making a decisive move into 3rd. Jayson and Corey were about a second ahead, and I dug deep to close the gap. Consistent low 1:45 lap times allowed me to gain .3 seconds over three laps, but small mistakes ultimately widened the gap, leaving me to finish in a solitary 3rd place.
Looking Ahead
The weekend was a great reminder of how much I love being back on the bike and competing alongside racers like Corey, Jayson, and Michael Gilbert. I’m eagerly anticipating the next round and hope to see Chad Lewin and Bryce Prince back on the grid for another thrilling Shootout.
I’m incredibly grateful for the ongoing support of my sponsors and the guidance of coach Josh Hayes. Every race is an opportunity to grow and get faster—and we’re just getting started!
